Bio
Joseph Matarese brings over 30 years of leadership experience in the healthcare and business services sectors. In 2004, he founded Medicus Healthcare Solutions, which has grown into one of the nation’s largest providers of locum tenens physicians, now valued at over $1 billion. The firm was acquired by Ridgemont Capital in 2024.
Joseph’s entrepreneurial success spans multiple industries. He has founded and invested in several businesses, including Reliant Life Sciences (focused on staffing in the life sciences sector), Fusion Cell (supporting military veterans transitioning to civilian careers), and Cryptillian (the first U.S.-based cryptocurrency-to-cryptocurrency debit card processing firm). He is also a founding investor and lead board director of NOW Insurance, which ranked No. 559 on the 2024 Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in the U.S., achieving the 9th spot within the insurance industry. Additionally, Joseph is the lead investor and board member of Small Engine Warehouse, a family-owned business since 1974 that has become a global supplier of engines and parts.
Joseph made a direct investment in Granite Recovery Center, partnering with the CEO to drive growth. He held a board seat and led the investment for three years, during which the company significantly expanded. In a highly successful exit, Granite Recovery Center was sold to a private equity-backed strategic buyer, generating a 10X multiple on invested capital (MOIC).
In addition to his entrepreneurial ventures, Joseph has held board positions at two of Shore Capital’s portfolio companies: The Stepping Stone Group, a pediatric speech therapy company, and Community Care Partners, a multi-state urgent care network. He also serves as a board member of MRA, a billing and coding company. All these organizations experienced significant growth and successful exits under his guidance.
Joseph is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and serves on various advisory boards, including the International Tennis Hall of Fame, Advantage Kids, and the Navy Seal Museum.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Boston College and an MBA from the University of Texas. His expertise in building and scaling organizations aligns with Shore Capital’s focus on driving value creation and operational excellence.
